Photo of Bluejacks Hockey Team

Our Merrill Bluejays participate in a regional team consisting of players from Merrill High School, Newman Catholic High School and Wausau East High School known as the Bluejacks.

Hockey is a very high speed, team oriented, and demanding game. It takes much physical strength and stamina to play this game. Most players at the high school level have been playing hockey since they were very young. When all five players on the ice work together, hockey is very fun to watch, but it is even more fun to play.

Merrill’s hockey program has only been in existence for 22 years, and has been part of the Wisconsin Valley Conference for 17 of those years. The varsity team usually consists of 20-22 players, six of whom are on the ice at any given time (five skaters and one goalie). Home games are held at the Smith Center.
