Nondiscrimination Policy

Merrill Area Public Schools is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all students, staff, and community members. The District does not discriminate based on any protected characteristic, including but not limited to race, color, national origin, age, sex (including transgender status, gender identity, change of sex, or sexual orientation), pregnancy, creed or religion, genetic information, disability, marital status, citizenship status, veteran status, military service (as defined in Wis. Stat. 111.32), ancestry, arrest or conviction record, lawful off-duty conduct, or refusal to participate in religious or political activities. Discrimination or retaliation of any kind will not be tolerated.

Reporting Procedures

Employees of the District are required—and all other members of the school community are encouraged—to promptly report any suspected violations of this policy to an administrator, supervisor, or other District official. This allows the District to address concerns swiftly and appropriately.

Any teacher, administrator, supervisor, or District employee who receives a report must submit it to the District’s Compliance Officer within two (2) days.

Students, staff, or third parties who believe they have experienced discrimination or retaliation are encouraged to use the formal or informal complaint process outlined in policy 1422. Filing a complaint will not negatively impact an individual’s employment, education, or participation in school activities. While there is no strict time limit for submitting a complaint, individuals are encouraged to report concerns as soon as possible to ensure a timely and effective response.

For questions or to report a concern, please contact the Compliance Officer listed on this page.
